OB-GYN Residency Program

Dr Marty Tucker and residents talkingThe faculty and residents of the University of Mississippi Medical Center would like to thank you for your interest in our program. UMMC is Mississippi's only academic medical center and receives high-risk maternity and gynecological patients from all 82 counties in Mississippi, as well as from the adjoining states of Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama.

Our program currently accepts six residents in our categorical program and one preliminary resident each year. Beginning July 1, 2026, we are excited to offer a Rural OB-GYN Residency Track in collaboration with Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, Mississippi. This track is designed to support and expand women's health care in underserved areas of the state. The rural track resident will complete PGY-1 at UMMC—with the final rotation of the year held at Memorial Hospital—then transition to Gulfport for PGY-2 and PGY-3, before returning to UMMC for the PGY-4 year. All applicants, including those interested in the rural track, must apply through ResidencyCas.

We have a varied group of residents who have completed medical school training all across the United States. The faculty and residents at UMMC have established a tradition of teaching and learning proven to develop outstanding obstetricians and gynecologists practicing across Mississippi and numerous locations throughout the United States.

Resident knowledge and experience are gained on all OB-GYN services through core didactics, conferences, rounds, and daily supervision by faculty. Additional experience is gained by each resident during their participation in the educational process of other residents and third- or fourth-year medical students.

Goal

The goal of the OB-GYN residency program is to prepare physicians for independent practice in general obstetrics and gynecology. At the completion of residency, trainees will be eligible for board certification.

The objectives of the program are based on CREOG Educational Objectives.
